Who's sand baggin'? Me, that's who!

That's right, over the past number of days I have been making DIY sand bags. Three 15 pounders and one 10 pounder with 'butterfly' handles and one 5 pounder with a single loop on one end. The great thing is... I am going to share with everyone just how I made them.

These bags are very similiar to those that you can buy from film supply stores such as Lindcraft.

All you will need is a sewing machine and thread (heavy duty thread if possible).
1.5 inch strapping or webbing.
Sand (the kind for sand boxes works great and you can get it at your local hardware store).
Heavy duty zip lock freezer bags (10.5 X 10.75 inches).
Some type of material. I made mine out of a heavy brown denim but you can also use canvas, ripstop nylon, etc. Just make sure it is heavy duty enough.

Below is a couple of pictures of the bags.

If you want the instructions on how to make these (as well as a couple free production forms) head on over to the Freebies section of the glyph pictures web site.  [correction - this page is no longer available.  I am currently working on a new location for these items and will update this post and create a new one when they are available]

If you make some, let me know how it went.
