Hey everybody...

Look at this!  Another post!

I'm doing my best to be a little more responsible as a blog owner...

So, to fulfill the final paragraph of my lastpost, I will now regail you with an update as to what I'm doing.  I know, super boring for you guys, but hey, it's my blog.  If you want to blather on about yourselves, get your own blog.

And now, time for the update.

Currently I'm working for Global Calgary as one of their switchers.  Have to say, not where I thought I would be.  That being said, when I took the job it was known to me it would only last for about 6 months as they are moving into a fully automated newscast.  This is good for me as it keeps me gainfully employed and gives me an out just as the freelance world starts to heat up again.  It also means that I am one of the last switchers Global Calgary will ever hire (kinda cool, huh...).

Outside of that, still got my toes in the freelance thing, picking up the odd job when I can.  This has included some commercial work, corporate gigs, etc.

In addition to working (for a paycheque) I'm writing.  I am about a third of the way through my first feature (a western) and continue to write the odd short.  I am even working on a reality show that I hope to be pitching soon. So as you can see... been keeping busy.

That's about it (I know, updates are kinda boring).  Not much else to say, but maybe a comment on tonight's Grey Cup...  To bad Stampeder's, not that I was cheering for the Argo's, but better them then you.  Hey what can I say, you beat my Lions last weekend...

Oh yeah, and did you know Carly Rae Jepson is 27?  Now I don't feel so creepy for secretly liking "Call Me Maybe"...

That's it... I'm out.

Blah, blah, blah, blah... (seriously, there's not much in this post worth reading).

Okay, so I said I was going to post more, and then didn't post for over a year. Hey, what can I say... I'm a busy guy.

Okay, that's not really true, I just didn't have anything to say.

That's not really true either. Any one who knows me knows I generally have quite a bit to say. I guess I just didn't think to say it on this blog, and then when I thought about posting something here I had forgot my password and didn't bother to find it out.

That one is true.

So. Now I know my password, I have put it in a place I can access it (so no excuses there anymore) and I have something to say.

I don't really have anything important to say but I figure I want to do more writing and if I can post here more often (which shouldn't be a difficult task) I should be able to do more writing. Judging by my previous attempts at posting on my blogs (yes, I have more than one that I rarely update), I wouldn't hold my breath.

That being said, as one philosopher put it, "thousand miles to be traveled, start with foot (placed) down". - Laozi (c 604 BC - c 531 BC)

I know, many of you are thinking "Doesn't he mean 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with one single step' by Confucius?" And yes, I did mean that, but with a little research I discovered it was written by Laozi, a contemporary of Confucius, and is more correctly translated to "thousand miles to be traveled, start with foot (placed) down".

I like the Laozi version. It sounds more poetic.

This brings me to my next point. When I say "many of you..." I actually mean "all of you..." because there are actually "none of you..."

Nobody reads this blog but me, and even then, only when I am writing it. My mom doesn't even read it. Now, to be fair, I have never asked her to read it, and though she is very internet savvy (especially for a 75 year old woman) I don't think she would even think to look for a 'blog' written by her son. And as for the rest of you (this time I mean everyone who isn't me) I haven't really put it out there that this blog exists. I guess I am saying I begrudge none of you (again, I mean those that aren't me) and have only myself to blame for people not reading what I have or have not written. I guess I can't really blame anyone, including me, for not reading what I haven't written. That would be just plain crazy.

Now, if you are you (meaning not me) and reading this... Thank you, you are probably the first (who is not me)! And even if you are not the first, you are probably the second or third and thank you also. Right now you three people are probably thinking "Wow, he wasn't kidding when he said he didn't have anything important to say..." but you've made it this far, so you may as well read through to the end.

And now, the end. I originally started out with the idea of giving some sort of update as to what I've been doing and where I'm headed. Seeing though, as I have already blathered on enough and you guys are getting bored (this time I mean me and yes, even I'm getting bored of what I'm writing, so 'Hats Off' to the three of you for sticking it out to this point) I will save the updates for a future post.

Until then, and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later, keep the glass half full!

End!

Who's sand baggin'? Me, that's who!

That's right, over the past number of days I have been making DIY sand bags. Three 15 pounders and one 10 pounder with 'butterfly' handles and one 5 pounder with a single loop on one end. The great thing is... I am going to share with everyone just how I made them.

These bags are very similiar to those that you can buy from film supply stores such as Lindcraft.

All you will need is a sewing machine and thread (heavy duty thread if possible).
1.5 inch strapping or webbing.
Sand (the kind for sand boxes works great and you can get it at your local hardware store).
Heavy duty zip lock freezer bags (10.5 X 10.75 inches).
Some type of material. I made mine out of a heavy brown denim but you can also use canvas, ripstop nylon, etc. Just make sure it is heavy duty enough.

Below is a couple of pictures of the bags.

If you want the instructions on how to make these (as well as a couple free production forms) head on over to the Freebies section of the glyph pictures web site.  [correction - this page is no longer available.  I am currently working on a new location for these items and will update this post and create a new one when they are available]

If you make some, let me know how it went.

Too many blogs, too little time...

Okay, if the title for this post seems a bit cryptic... let me explain.

Over the years I have started (and not updated very often) several blogs.  These blogs have been under various accounts, and of course, with various passwords, which makes things quite difficult when you are sporadically logging in.  The funny thing is, the account this blog is attached to, I forgot I even had.

To make a long story short... it has taken me the better part of an hour to log in, to add this post.  The sad thing is, I am (presently) the only one who will be reading this.

Any way, I am now logged in, have written down the account information and will, hopefully, be updating more often.  With that said, let me update...

As mentioned in my previous post, I have spent much of my summer slogging through forests and bogs with a shovel in my hand looking for archaeological sites.  This has done a few things for me such as; I have a better tan (on my arms...), I made some money, I have contributed to the archaeological data in the province of Alberta (meaning I found some cool sites and artifacts), I have spent a lot of time lying on hotel beds falling asleep with the TV on, and lastly (but not least) I have come up with several ideas for future projects.  As I mentioned earlier, walking through the forest gives you a lot of time to think, and think I did.  I also saw a bear!

I do have some great ideas, some of which I hope to shoot before going back to school.  This of course, depends on how much more I will be slogging through the woods and falling asleep on hotel beds.

Wish me luck and I will post links to the videos when they are completed!

Long time no type...

Okay, a long time ago (meaning early February 2010) I started this blog with the intent on posting updates as to what I am doing in regards to glyph pictures. As can be seen, either I have done nothing or I have been a bad blogger. Well, more of the latter is the case.

So, to fill in the gap... I have continued writing, done nothing more with Farm Zombies (yet), more writing (in actuality, I have completed three shorts and am working on two features), tried and failed at starting a podcast (twice) and the biggest news of all, [insert fan-fare here] I have gone back to school.

That's right; I am currently attending SAIT Polytechnic in the Television program. I finished the first year where I was able to write, produce and direct a five-minute documentary on coffee.
It is up on YouTube and you can see it at glyphpictures.

I am looking forward to heading back in September. Other than that, I have been working a summer job as an archaeologist.

This job has taken up much more of my free time than I had hoped. My big plan for when I was out of town was to do a lot of writing in the evenings, but mostly I just lie on the hotel bed and
recuperate. I have found that at times, walking through the forest with my shovel in my hand, is a good time to think about story ideas. Also, it’s a good time to watch out for bears…

Well, that’s about all for now. I am hoping to update this blog a little more frequently in the future. If nothing, I will post my progress for the rest of my schooling.

I’m out.

Welcome to glyph pictures!

Welcome to the first blog post for glyph pictures.

This blog will be used to update you to the happenings going on at glyph pictures. For example, we are currently in the pre-production stage of an upcoming short film titled "Farm Zombies". We have also entered the writing stage for a new feature film. We are still completing the treatment, so not much more can be said at this time. Stay tuned though, as soon as we finish the treatment we will post more info here.

Thank you for coming, tell your friends and come back soon.
